Amazon confirms all future Fire TV Sticks will run Vega OS — No more Android or sideloading on new models
admin 2 hours agoA report came out yesterday citing multiple trusted sources saying that all future Fire TV Sticks would run Vega OS instead of Amazon’s Android-based Fire OS.

It turns out, Amazon stated this to be true months ago, but nobody noticed. Ars Technica has spotted that Amazon’s Fire TV developer page was updated back in October 2025 to plainly state: “Starting with Fire TV Stick 4K Select, all future Fire TV Sticks will run on Vega.”
Since Vega OS is a locked-down platform that is restricted to a limited subset of apps in the Amazon Appstore, which will shrink further when Amazon begins charging developers for cloud apps, the current Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Stick 4K Max are the last Android-based Fire TV Sticks that will allow sideloading. There continue to be new Android-based Fire TV Smart TVs released running Fire OS, but I imagine it’s only a matter of time until those also make the switch to Vega...
