Anime fans likely know that Crunchyroll is one of the best outlets to watch Japanese animation from the past and present anywhere, but many may not know about the streamer’s free ad-supported tier. Crunchyroll offers a selection of its library at no cost if viewers are willing to watch with commercials, but it appears that plan is disappearing at the end of 2025.
As reported by Screen Rant, Crunchyroll’s website is now informing viewers that ad-supported streaming will be discontinued on the service as of Dec. 31, 2025. It then prompts customers to upgrade to a paid plan to ensure they don’t lose access to programming on the service, and to cut out the commercials.
