Streaming TV fans will have another well-featured media streamer from Google to choose from this September. The new device has a sleek appearance and comes in porcelain and hazel colors, making it a clear upgrade. It no longer needs a dongle. It also comes with smart home technology. A new chipset is 22% faster and it now comes with twice the RAM of the previous Chromecast with Google TV model. This makes navigating the interface so much smoother.

At the back, you'll find ports for HDMI 2.1a, gigabit Ethernet to prevent buffering, and USB-C for power. It includes Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, which, although a bit outdated, are sufficient for streaming.

The streamer also features Google's new Gemini AI, which provides show summaries and user reviews to help you make better viewing choices. The generative ambient mode screensavers offer additional options when the screen is idle. The remote has been redesigned with volume buttons on the front and a customizable button that defaults to launching the Google Home panel. If you misplace the remote, a button on the back of the streamer will make it beep until you find it.

With Android's superior OS that lets you still install apps from unknown sources to have unlimited access to free content found on the Internet through apps or a web browser, it will put a serious dent in Roku's market share. Selling at the same price as a Roku Ultra, and much less than a Nvidia SHIELD, Google could well have one of the more popular media streamers available for 2024 and beyond.
