1. Replace all the screws for the hinges and strike plates with 3" long screws. This ensures that the often used 3/4" long screws are replaced and will penetrate both the door frame and surrounding 2x4 studs behind the frame.
2. On the hinge side, you can leave one screw on each hinge protrude 1/2" from the frame and drill a hole on the opposite side. This means your door will have one less screw but it will effectively prevent anyone from simply removing the hinge pins and removing the door.
3. Finally, think about adding additional points to keep your door from being kicked in by adding a slide bolt at the top and bottom of the door. Also add a reinforcement plate around the deadbolt. Now with a deadbolt and door lock you have 4 points securing your door and it takes much more effort for someone to bust through.
